Digital service provider (DSP)
A digital service provider, or DSP, is a software developer whose product connects to ATO digital services. The ATO publishes requirements that a DSP must meet, including on security, and it operates a developer programme where providers register and are tested for the services they use. A practice using DSP software should know that connecting to the ATO is not the same as the ATO endorsing or certifying the software; each practice remains responsible for what it lodges. DSP products include accounting, payroll and tax software. Practices usually ask a provider which ATO services it connects to and which security requirements it has met.
