Fedix compared with other tools for Australian accounting practices
FediPilot does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax: it reads the client's documents and prepares the workpapers, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged. Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. MyLedger prepares the ledger, working papers and Special Purpose Financial Reports. Neither Practice Manager nor MyLedger lodges; nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
Every statement about another product below comes from that vendor's own public page, linked next to it and accurate as of 2026-10-26. These tools do different jobs, many practices use more than one, and each section says where the other tool is the better fit. Check the vendor's current page before you decide.
Xero Practice Manager (Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management)
- Xero describes it as one central place to manage jobs, time and billing. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Xero says jobs connect to tax returns in Xero Tax, and that Tax and Workpapers are included at no extra cost at its Silver partner level and above. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Xero describes JAX, an AI finance partner in beta, that can summarise client information and answer questions. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
Where it is the better fit: If your practice already runs on Xero and wants jobs, time and billing tied to Xero Tax and the Xero client file, Xero's own tool is the natural fit.
Where Fedix differs: FediPilot is an assistant that does the preparation work across a client's documents and fills the return; it can work inside Xero Tax and Xero, and it is not a replacement for Xero's job and billing records.
MYOB (Practice Compliance and Practice Management)
- MYOB lists Practice Compliance as a cloud-based platform for the end-to-end compliance lifecycle. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- MYOB lists tax returns ("Prepare, lodge and manage tax returns in the cloud") and activity statements with lodging workflows. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- MYOB lists document management with digital signatures, and workpapers and reports. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
Where it is the better fit: If you want one vendor for tax returns, activity statements and lodgement in the same compliance platform, MYOB offers that. Fedix Practice Manager and MyLedger do not lodge.
Where Fedix differs: FediPilot works inside the lodgement software you already use (LodgeiT, Xero Tax) rather than being a lodgement platform itself.
CCH iFirm
- A Wolters Kluwer announcement (reported 14 November 2023) describes CCH iFirm as having modules for practice management, tax preparation, client accounting, document management and secure exchange with clients. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- The same report says Client Portal and Signatures now need only a few clicks to get a tax return sent, signed and saved securely, and describes a single-click import of ledger data from Client Accounting to the tax return in CCH iFirm Tax. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
Where it is the better fit: If you want one integrated platform that covers practice management, tax preparation and client accounting from a single vendor, CCH iFirm is built for that.
Where Fedix differs: Fedix is a connected set (Practice Manager, MyLedger, FediPilot) with an AI assistant that does the return itself in your tax software; check the two against your own workflow before choosing.
Karbon
- Karbon describes itself as practice management software for accounting firms, with workflow automation, email management, a client portal, billing and payments. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Karbon describes an AI coworker, Kai, that "knows your clients, your work, and your team". Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Karbon's home page does not state that it prepares or lodges tax returns. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
Where it is the better fit: If your main need is team workflow, shared email and client communication in a practice that already has its tax software, Karbon is focused on that.
Where Fedix differs: Fedix adds FediPilot, which prepares the workpapers and fills the return in your tax software; Karbon's own page does not describe that.
Dext
- Dext describes receipt, invoice and statement capture by mobile, email, WhatsApp or desktop, with data extraction. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Dext says it connects with 36+ accounting software platforms, including Xero. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
- Dext's page does not mention tax return preparation. Source (as of 2026-10-26)
Where it is the better fit: If you need bookkeeping document capture and expense management feeding your accounting software, Dext is built for that, and it is a different job from preparing the return.
Where Fedix differs: FediPilot reads the client's documents to build the workpapers and complete the return; the two can sit side by side in one practice.
Product names belong to their owners and are used only to identify them. Fedix is software, not a registered tax agent: the registered agent reviews and lodges. See also plain answers for accountants. Fedix is developed by Tax7 R&D Pty Ltd.
