Practice, agents and regulation
Standard Business Reporting (SBR)
Standard Business Reporting, or SBR, is an Australian Government approach that lets business software send reports to government agencies in a common digital format, straight from the records the business already keeps. Instead of re-keying figures into each agency's form, the software prepares and sends the report, which cuts re-entry and the errors that come with it. Many ATO lodgments from accounting and payroll software use SBR-enabled channels, and software developers build to the published specifications. A practice does not usually need to deal with SBR directly; it matters because it determines what the practice's software can send to government and in what form.
