Pre-filling service
The pre-filling service lets a tax professional bring information the ATO already holds about a client into the client's tax return, such as employer income statements, bank interest and dividends. It helps the accuracy of a return because those figures come from the payers' own reports. The data is only a starting point: it can be incomplete or late, and it does not tell the practitioner about a deduction, a capital gain the payer did not report, or a mistake in the payer's report. The practitioner still checks the figures against the client's own records and takes responsibility for the return that is lodged.
