Code of Professional Conduct
The Code of Professional Conduct is the set of enforceable obligations that every registered tax agent and BAS agent must follow, set out in the Tax Agent Services Act 2009 and administered by the Tax Practitioners Board. It covers matters such as honesty and integrity, independence, confidentiality of client information, competence, and the proper management of client money and conflicts of interest. A breach can lead to sanctions, including a caution, an order to complete education, suspension or termination of registration. The Code applies to the practitioner whatever software they use, so using automated tools does not move the responsibility. The practitioner remains responsible for the work.
