Fedix for sole-practitioner tax agents
FediPilot does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax: it reads the client's documents and prepares the workpapers, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged. Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. MyLedger prepares the ledger, working papers and Special Purpose Financial Reports. Neither Practice Manager nor MyLedger lodges; nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
A sole practitioner is the engagement partner, the preparer and the person who answers the phone. The jobs below are the ones that take the most routine hours, and each one ends with the agent's own review.
The jobs and the features that cover them
Take on a new client and agree the engagement
- New-client intake form: Give prospective clients a protected public form to submit their details through a Fedix link.
- Engagement letters by secure link: Send engagement letters through a password-protected link, track their status, keep the signed PDF and send in bulk.
- Send documents for e-signature: Create a signing document from a file or template, place the fields, invite the signers, track progress, cancel if needed and keep the signed copy.
Turn the client's documents into workpapers
- Workpapers from client documents: Build a workpaper from the data extracted and classified from the client's documents.
- Source completeness check: FediPilot gathers a client's sources, including email and the prior-year return, and will not mark a workpaper complete until sources are covered.
- Compliance checklist: A deterministic compliance checklist with questions, answers and status, at no AI cost.
Complete the individual return in your tax software
- Fill individual tax returns in LodgeiT: Fill an individual return draft in LodgeiT from the workpaper (income, deductions, rentals, dividends and interest) and read it back.
- Send tax returns for signature: Send prepared returns to clients in batches for e-signature, with the invoice and payment attached and a date before which the return will not be lodged.
Keep track of what is due and what is waiting on the client
- Jobs board: A kanban board and list of every job in the practice, with filters and a workflow stage for each job.
- Lodgement tracker board: A board of return batches by lodgement status, updated by dragging a batch to its new status.
- Overdue work digest: A regular digest of overdue and stalled jobs, delivered by email or in-app notification according to each person's preference.
What stays with the accountant
- The registered agent reads the workpapers and the completed return before anything is lodged.
- FediPilot stops before lodgement in LodgeiT; the agent approves, and the agent lodges.
- The client signs the return through the signing link before the agent lodges it.
What Fedix does not do
- Practice Manager and MyLedger do not lodge: lodgement stays in the lodgement software your practice chooses, and nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
- Fedix is software, not a registered tax agent: the registered agent reviews and lodges.
- FediPilot runs on the practice's own ChatGPT or Claude account, which Fedix does not supply.
- Fedix does not decide a tax treatment for you: a figure that needs judgement is flagged for the agent.
