Payment plan (help with paying)
A payment plan is an arrangement with the ATO to pay a tax debt in instalments over time when a taxpayer cannot pay it in full by the due date. The ATO's help with paying pages explain the options, which depend on the amount owed, the taxpayer's circumstances and whether returns and statements are up to date. The taxpayer, or the agent for them, usually must have lodged outstanding documents before an arrangement is agreed. General interest charge normally continues to accrue on the unpaid amount while the plan runs. A practice should talk to the client about their full position before proposing a plan, and keep a record of what was agreed.
