FBT return

An FBT return is the annual return an employer lodges to report fringe benefits provided in the FBT year and pay the tax due. An employer who has provided fringe benefits and has a liability must register for FBT first, lodge the return, and pay by the due date the ATO sets. The return is separate from the employer's income tax return and from the business activity statement, though FBT instalments are reported on the statement. Employers who have no liability do not normally lodge. A practice should collect the records for each benefit, such as logbooks and declarations, before the return is started, because the taxable value depends on them.
