Fedix for trust and company returns
FediPilot does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax: it reads the client's documents and prepares the workpapers, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged. Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. MyLedger prepares the ledger, working papers and Special Purpose Financial Reports. Neither Practice Manager nor MyLedger lodges; nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
Trust and company returns need the year-end schedules to agree with the ledger before the return is filled. The jobs below follow the path from ledger to completed return.
The jobs and the features that cover them
Reconcile book figures to the tax return labels
- Tax return label report: Map the ledger to ATO tax return labels with drill-down, so return figures trace back to transactions.
- Book-to-tax reconciliation: A book-to-tax working paper for each year that bridges accounting profit to taxable income.
Record trust distributions to beneficiaries
- Trust distributions: Allocate trust net income to beneficiaries and post or unpost the distribution journals.
Prepare company schedules such as Division 7A and franking
- Division 7A loans and calculator: Track Division 7A loan accounts, calculate minimum repayments per year with the benchmark rate and carry balances forward.
- Franking account and dividends: Track the franking account balance and dividends declared each year, including ATO payment receipts.
Fill the trust or company return in your tax software
- Fill trust returns in LodgeiT: Fill trust return drafts and trust income details, including distributions, in LodgeiT.
- Fill company returns in LodgeiT: Fill company tax return drafts in LodgeiT from the workpaper.
- Check LodgeiT's estimate against the workpaper: Compare LodgeiT's calculated refund or payable with the workpaper's estimate.
What stays with the accountant
- The accountant confirms the distribution resolutions and the treatment of each schedule.
- The accountant reads the completed return against the workpapers; FediPilot stops before lodgement in LodgeiT.
- Lodgement stays with the registered agent.
What Fedix does not do
- Practice Manager and MyLedger do not lodge: lodgement stays in the lodgement software your practice chooses, and nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
- Fedix is software, not a registered tax agent: the registered agent reviews and lodges.
- FediPilot runs on the practice's own ChatGPT or Claude account, which Fedix does not supply.
- Fedix does not draft trust deeds, resolutions or company minutes.
