Fedix vs Xero Practice Manager
FediPilot does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax: it reads the client's documents and prepares the workpapers, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged. Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. MyLedger prepares the ledger, working papers and Special Purpose Financial Reports. Neither Practice Manager nor MyLedger lodges; nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
What Xero Practice Manager does
Xero Practice Manager is now part of Xero Partner Hub + Practice Management. Many practices use it for jobs, time and billing and add other tools beside it.
| Statement | Source | Checked on |
|---|---|---|
| Xero describes it as one central place to manage jobs, time and billing. | www.xero.com | |
| Xero says jobs connect to tax returns in Xero Tax, and that Tax and Workpapers are included at no extra cost at its Silver partner level and above. | www.xero.com | |
| Xero describes JAX, an AI finance partner in beta, that can summarise client information and answer questions. | www.xero.com |
Where it is the better fit: If your practice already runs on Xero and wants jobs, time and billing tied to Xero Tax and the Xero client file, Xero's own tool is the natural fit.
What Fedix does
Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. FediPilot prepares the workpapers and does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged.
Where Fedix differs
Xero's tool is built around the Xero client file and Xero Tax. Fedix works with Xero (including Xero Practice Manager client sync, which stays under your team's control) but is a separate set: Practice Manager, MyLedger and FediPilot.
What Fedix does not do
- Practice Manager and MyLedger do not lodge: lodgement stays in the lodgement software your practice chooses, and nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
- Fedix is software, not a registered tax agent: the registered agent reviews and lodges.
- Fedix is not part of Xero and does not replace the Xero client file or Xero's own job, time and billing records if you keep using them.
- FediPilot runs on the practice's own ChatGPT or Claude account, which Fedix does not supply.
Migration notes
- You can keep Xero Practice Manager running while you try Fedix: the client sync between the two imports, compares and pushes client records, and imports and conflict resolution stay under your team's control.
- Onboarding includes a migration and system-connections session in week one; see the onboarding page for the four sessions.
- Ledger data can come in from Xero through its connection; CSV and Excel files are also accepted.
