Fedix vs Dext
FediPilot does the tax return itself in LodgeiT or Xero Tax: it reads the client's documents and prepares the workpapers, and the accountant takes a quick look before it is lodged. Fedix Practice Manager covers onboarding, engagement, quotes, invoices, documents, e-signatures, tax-return management, notes and jobs. MyLedger prepares the ledger, working papers and Special Purpose Financial Reports. Neither Practice Manager nor MyLedger lodges; nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
What Dext does
Dext captures receipts, invoices and statements and sends the data to accounting software. It does a different job from preparing the return, and many practices use it beside other tools.

Where it is the better fit: If you need bookkeeping document capture and expense management feeding your accounting software, Dext is built for that, and it is a different job from preparing the return.
What Fedix does
FediPilot reads the client's documents to build the workpapers and complete the return in LodgeiT or Xero Tax, with an accountant's quick look before it is lodged. MyLedger reads PDF and scanned bank statements, screenshots, CSV and Excel files into a ledger the accountant reviews.
Where Fedix differs
Dext's page describes document capture and extraction for bookkeeping; it does not mention tax return preparation. Fedix starts from the documents and goes on to workpapers and the return.
What Fedix does not do
- Practice Manager and MyLedger do not lodge: lodgement stays in the lodgement software your practice chooses, and nothing is lodged without the accountant's approval.
- Fedix is software, not a registered tax agent: the registered agent reviews and lodges.
- Fedix does not publish a comparison of capture channels such as WhatsApp or mobile apps against Dext; check the features pages for what is supported.
- Fedix is not a bookkeeping expense-management tool for your clients' day-to-day receipts.
Migration notes
- There is nothing to migrate if you keep Dext: it can keep feeding your accounting software while Fedix prepares from the same documents.
- If you stop using Dext, export the documents you need first; Fedix accepts PDF, scanned copies, screenshots, CSV and Excel files.
- Onboarding includes a migration and system-connections session in week one.
